John Wall attended the Mystics 86-62 win over the Dallas Wings Sunday at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. The injured Washington Wizards gave a pleasant surprise to fans as he was rooting on the home WNBA team without the walking boot and scooter he had been sporting for the past several months following surgery on torn Achilles.
Wall was sitting alongside Redskins’ legend and front office executive Doug Williams in the front row.
At the conclusion of the game, Wall was spotted walking from courtside with a slight limp. Still, the sight of him walking on his own accord and no brace is encouraging.
Wall has been able to walk on his own for the past three weeks, according to Neil Dalal of Hoop District. Wall, who is working closely with Wizards Director of Player Rehabilitation Jesse Phillips and Sr. Director, Health Wellness & Performance Steve Smith, has rehabbed mostly in Miami, Fla.
Wall provided Dalal some insight about his next steps in his recovery.
āI donāt know, whatever the trainers want me to do. Step by step whatever the trainers all me to do,ā Wall explained about next steps. āAfter the tendon heals all the way it is all about getting my leg strength back so I can run and bend and do all those type of things.ā
A video was shared recently of the All-Star working out. He has yet to begin running or jumping. Initial diagnosis was up to 12 months of rehabbing after he underwent surgery to repair the torn Achilles on Feb. 12.
Owner Ted Leonsis has said the Wizards were not going to rush Wall through the process. Presumably he faces a long road to recovery but Sunday’s sighting brings some promise that his return will be sooner rather than later.
