Bobby Portis has agreed to a two-year deal with the New York Knicks worth $31 million, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Portis had spent the second half of this past season with the Washington Wizards after he and Jabari Parker were traded from the Chicago Bulls for Otto Porter, Jr.

The Wizards had extended a qualifying offer to Portis, but according to Fred Katz of the Athletic, the team will rescind the offer to allow Portis to join the Knicks.

Portis thrived in a contract year in 2018-19 with the Bulls and Wizards. He averaged career-highs of 14.2 points and 8.1 rebounds. He also shot a career-high of 39.3 percent from three, including 40.3% in 28 games with the Wizards.

The Wizards are near the luxury tax threshold, leaving them little to no wiggle room and forcing their hand on a potential deal with Portis. Even at the $15.5 million annual average, that was too steep for the Wizards for a promising 6-foot-11 versatile big, who can shoot, rebound, stretch the offense.

Bobby Portis’ signing is a consolation for the Knicks, who opted to sign Julius Randle and Taj Gibson, as well, after losing out on Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
