Dwight Howard’s era in Washington, DC is over after just one season, as the Wizards have traded the veteran center to the Memphis Grizzlies for swing CJ Miles, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Howard played just nine games last season for the Wizards before his season was cut short with a lower back injury that ultimately needed surgery.

Howard exercised his $5.6 million player option for the 2019-20 season. However, the Grizzlies are expected to buyout his contract to allow him to become a free agent.

Washington takes on the final year of Miles’ contract at $8.7 million.

Last season, Miles split time with the Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors after being traded to Memphis as part of the deal that shipped Marc Gasol to Toronto.

Miles averaged 6.4 points, shooting 33.0 percent from three in 53 games.

Howard’s future in Washington was uncertain after the team re-signed the promising 21-year old center Thomas Bryant to a three-year deal worth $25 million. The Wizards discovered their hidden gem in Bryant while Howard was out due to his injury.

Wherever Dwight Howard lands it will be his fifth team in the past five seasons.
