Carter Kieboom had an eventful day at the MLB Futures Game Sunday in Cleveland. Things got off to a rocky start for the Washington Nationals’ top infield prospect, as his name was misspelled on both his game jersey and locker plate.

The matter was eventually resolved, and Kieboom then starred on the field.

Kieboom provided a highlight of a play, when he fielded a chopper off the mound and made an on-point throw charging to end the third inning.

When Kieboom stepped up to the plate in the fourth inning, neither team had a hit. That changed when he lined a single into left field.

Later in the frame, Kieboom scored the game’s first run off an RBI-single from Taylor Trammell.

Kieboom finished the night 1-for-2 with a run scored. The game ultimately ended in a 2-2 tie. Texas Rangers’ prospect Sam Huff hit a game-tying two-run homer in the seventh.

But the experience in all showed off the talents that make Kieboom one of the Nationals’ young prizes.

Earlier this season he was called up by the Nationals following injuries to Trea Turner, Ryan Zimmerman, and Anthony Rendon.

Kieboom played in 11 games, but struggled for the most part, hitting .128/.209/.282 at the plate. He did hit two memorable home runs in that stint, as his first blast was his first MLB hit. The second was part of MLB history as he, Victor Robles, and Juan Soto became the first trio of teammates under the age of 22 to homer in the same game.

Since, Carter Kieboom has spent his time with Triple-A affiliate Fresno. In 67 games, he is hitting .330/.431/.590 with 14 home runs and 61 RBIs. His numbers and play in the infield should suggest it will be a matter of time before his next call-up.
