Stephen Strasburg is getting things done on the mound and at the plate Thursday against the Atlanta Braves. The Washington Nationals’ starter took matters into his own hands at the plate in the third inning, going 2-for-2, scoring two runs while towering a three-run blast to cap an eight-run inning for Washington.

Strasburg crushed the three-run shot into left field seats at Atlanta’s SunTrust Park, extending the Nationals’ lead to 8-1.

Strasburg led off the frame with a single. Two batters later, Strasburg was hustling from first to home off an Adam Eaton RBI-triple.

The Nationals would tact on four more runs when Strasburg got back up to the plate for the second time in the inning. Then he got the end of the bat on a 1-0 fastball from Braves’ reliever Touki Toussaint sending it over the wall for his fourth home run of his career.

The Nationals currently trail the Braves by 6.5 games entering this weekend’s pivotal four-game series. Stephen Strasburg is doing all he can to get the “Curly W” in Thursday’s opener, even going so far as joining into the Nationals’ home run dancing tradition.
