The Washington Nationals have placed first baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 10-day injured list with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. The club announced along with a slew of other transactions.

Zimmerman missed two months earlier in the season and had returned to the team on Jun. 28, playing in 11 games after his return before he exited Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Braves in the second inning.

Zimmerman felt pain in his right foot as he ran out an infield single. He underwent an MRI Monday when the team returned to DC, and ultimately landed on the IL.

Ryan Zimmerman had been getting back in stride, hitting 13-for-43 (.302) with four RBIs and five runs scored as he returned from his first IL stint.

The Nationals also announced the club had selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Michael Blazek and recalled outfielder Andrew Stevenson from Triple-A Fresno.

Washington also optioned right-handed pitcher Kyle McGowin to Double-A Harrisburg and transferred right-handed pitcher Justin Miller to the 60-day injured list.

McGowin struggled in his time with the Nationals, posting a 9.69 ERA in five games, including him allowed a two-run blast to Ronald Acuna in Sunday’s 7-1 loss.

In Zimmerman’s absence, the Nationals are expected to continue to platoon first base between Howie Kendrick and Matt Adams.

Kendrick is hitting .318/.370/.541 with 12 home runs, 48 RBIs, and 18 walks in 246 plate appearances. Meanwhile, Adams is hitting .232/.269/.511 with 15 home runs, 40 RBIs, and 10 walks in 201 plate appearances.
