Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner hit for his second-career cycle Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies.
Turner becomes the 26th player in MLB history to complete two or more cycles in their career.
It’s also the fourth cycle hit in Nationals history, joining Brad Wilkerson and Crisitian Guzman. What’s astonishing is both of Turner’s career cycles have come against the Rockies.
In Tuesday’s edition, Turner got off to a fast start, hammering a lead-off home run in the first. It was his ninth career lead-off home run, tying Alfonso Soriano for the most in Nationals’ history.
Turner then got an infield single in the second. He led off the fifth inning with a triple to deep right. Unfortunately, Washington managed not to move him to home, stranding him at third as three consecutive batters struck out after an Adam Eaton walk. However, that left Turner needing a double to complete the second.
He got it in the seventh, ripping an RBI-double that extended Washington’s lead to 9-0.
The Nationals Park crowd of over 22,000 was elated for Turner’s rare milestone.
It’s very difficult to hit for a cycle, but to do it multiple times as Trea Turner now has done is truly astonishing.
