Max Scherzer Diagnosed with Back Strain after Undergoing MRI

Max Scherzer has been diagnosed with a small strain in his back after undergoing an MRI Friday, according to MASN Sports’ Dan Kolko.

Scherzer returned from the 10-day injured list to start Thursday’s loss to the Colorado Rockies. He allowed three runs, four hits, and two walks while striking out eight in five innings.

However, when he was not feeling great when he woke up Friday morning, prompting the MRI.

Scherzer received a stem cell injection and will be shut down for a couple of days before the next step is determined. He has not been ruled out of his next turn in the rotation which is Tuesday.

Certainly, all eyes on will focused on Max Scherzer who missed two weeks as he dealt with a mid-back strain before his return Thursday.

Resolving this issue is imperative for the Nationals as Scherzer is the ace of their formidable starting rotation. With aspirations of the postseason, Washington will hope to get to the root of the issue sooner than later. Entering Friday, the Nationals are in a three-way tie for the two NL wild cards with Chicago and St. Louis.
