Patrick Ewing and the Georgetown Hoyas have landed four-star forward Terrance Williams as their first commit for the 2020 class.
Williams, a 6-foot-6 forward from Gonzaga College (DC) High School announced his verbal commitment with the hometown Hoyas via Twitter.
āI loved what Georgetown showed me on my official visit. Coach Ewing has been recruiting me since my sophomore year and has been consistent,ā Williams told Rivals. āI felt like I could fit their style of play better than the other options I had and that Coach Ewing can get me to the next level. I also get to stay home, which is another plus.ā
Williams chose Georgetown over Michigan and Notre Dame. Additionally, he took official visits at Virginia, Stanford, and DePaul.
Williams has also starred for one of the area’s best AAU programs Team Takeover.
The fact that Williams is a top-rated local talent is an added plus for Ewing and the Hoyas. Williams represents a much-needed local add, as Georgetown tries to re-establish connection to area talent.
Williams ranks at No. 91 in the Rivals150. ESPN ranks him No. 82 overall in their ESPN100 rankings and the top player in DC.
With Williams now committed Georgetown can focus on adding to their 2020 class. Ewing has made no secret that he wants to pull in four-star point guard RJ Davis, Archbishop Stepinac High School (NY), along with Williams.
After a shaky start in his tenure at Georgetown, things are looking up for Ewing and his staff. Georgetown is expected to field a top-25 team this upcoming season, and now they are taking steps towards placing their footprint on recruiting with top-tier talent both locally and nationally.
