Redskins WR Terry McLaurin Played One Snap, There Could Be Good Reason

As Dwayne Haskins got his first opportunity under center for the Washington Redskins, his college turned pro teammate wide receiver Terry McLaurin was more so idle. McLaurin lined up for one snap in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns.

Following Washington’s 30-10 loss, McLaurin was mum, saying he was healthy. Head coach Jay Gruden was also mum, declining to explain why McLaurin only took one snap.

With no immediate word of any disciplinary action, Gruden’s silence may speak volume. McLaurin’s lack of usage may speak volume to how good his standing is within the Redskins’ wide receiver depth chart.

The third-round pick has been very impressive throughout training camp. He has a couple of highlight moments beating defenders, including cornerback Josh Norman. His speed and precise route-running sticks out.

Gruden recently admitted “I didn’t know he was this good,” in reference to McLaurin.

McLaurin has seemingly established himself as one of the top-4 Redskins wide receivers. With Trey Quinn locked at slot wide receiver, McLaurin could be competing with Josh Doctson and/or Paul Richardson for outside wide receiver. Thursday’s preseason opener may be an indication the Redskins understand how good of a receiver they have in Terry McLaurin.
