Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice has not been fully cleared to play in games by the team’s doctors, according to head coach Jay Gruden per ESPN’s John Keim.
Gruden is not sure when Guice will receive the clearance and be able to play this preseason.
Guice is coming off a torn ACL he suffered last year as a rookie in his first preseason game. He underwent three additional procedures surrounding an infection that developed.
Guice also tweaked his hamstring while training, however, he has practiced throughout training camp.
Once he is cleared, Gruden assured he will play. Guice is expected to share the Redskins’ backfield with veterans Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson in the upcoming season.
Excitement has been brewing over the possibilities of the healthy trio of running backs, however, that excitement will be tamed some until Derrius Guice can get on the playing field.
