Colt McCoy may not be ready to return to the field anytime soon. There is no timetable for his return, and his absence could linger past Week 1 of the regular season.

“Oh man, it might not be the end of camp, it might be two or three weeks into the season,” Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said Sunday. “We don’t know yet. Like I said, there’s no timetable for him until he feels like he’s 100 percent to push off that leg. Until that time comes, he’s going to be rehabbing.”

McCoy suffered a broken fibula in December. Gruden has admitted the team rushed him back in hopes of him returning before the 2018 season ended with the team still fighting for a playoff berth. Unfortunately, the team failed to get in position to benefit from McCoy’s return while he suffered a setback that has now lingered into throughout the summer.

McCoy went through two additional surgical procedures during the off-season. He missed OTA’s and mandatory mini-camp as he recovered. Despite returning in time for training camp, McCoy has struggled through his recovery being unable to push off on his injured leg.

McCoy told reporters Sunday he visited a foot specialist a few times and things just aren’t right with his injured leg, according to Craig Hoffman of 106.7 the Fan.

McCoy was expected to compete with Case Keenum and rookie Dwayne Haskins for the Redskins’ starting quarterback position. However, McCoy’s leg issues have forced him to miss the Redskins’ first two preseason games. In turn, may have caused him to give way in the quarterback competition.
