Hunter Strickland can count his blessings. The Washington Nationals reliever avoided serious injury after a bar in the weight room hit him in the face.
MASN Sports’ Mark Zuckerman described the ordeal:
After getting X-rays, Strickland was back on the field sometime later. He went through his routine pitching session, and all things seemed fine, according to Zuckerman. Strickland even was signing autographs following the session.
Strickland later provided an update, saying “broke nose never killed anyone.”
Hunter Strickland has been a delight since the Nationals acquired him in a July 31 trade from the Seattle Mariners. Strickland has helped sure up the Nationals’ bullpen, posting a 1.29 ERA with a 0.857 WHIP in eight appearances.
Hopefully this mishap won’t hamper him, as he has been vital to the Nationals’ postseason push. Entering Tuesday, the Nationals sit two games ahead for the top NL Wild Card spot, and five games behind Atlanta for first place in the NL East.
