Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit from Atlanta safety Keanu Neal.

Reed had a 10-yard reception on a third-and-seven early in the second quarter before he was hit by Neal. Neal was flagged for lowering the head to initiate contact. Reed’s helmet came off on the hit.

Reed did not return to the game. Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said Reed developed concussion symptoms during halftime and was immediately placed in the concussion protocol, according to 106.7 the Fan’s Craig Hoffman.

Reed has had six documented concussions going back to 2010 when he was Florida, according Sports Injury Predictor.

Reed’s NFL career has been marred by various injuries. He has yet to play all 16 games in any given season since being drafted by the Redskins in 2013. Last season he was hampered with a toe that limited him throughout the season. Then he suffered a toe sprain that held him out of the final three games.

Jordan Reed returned this summer with an intent to stay healthy and he was impressive throughout training camp. He is expected to be the No. 1 pass target for the Redskins quarterback Case Keenum. Now, the focus shifts to him being healthy to return to the field.
