Redskins head coach Jay Gruden expects tight end Jordan Reed will be ready to play Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Reed was placed in concussion protocol after receiving a helmet-to-helmet hit from Atlanta Falcons safety Keanu Neal last week. Reed developed concussion symptoms around halftime, and was immediately placed in the protocol.
“We’re quite confident that Jordan will be fine,” Gruden said, according to ESPN’s John Keim.
Reed has had six documented concussions since 2010 when he was playing in college at Florida. He has also had various injuries throughout his NFL career, including a toe injuries that bothered him the past two seasons.
The latest injury has drawn concerns of Reed’s health and playing future. However, according to Gruden, Reed will be cleared in time for the start of the regular season. If so, that will be huge for Washington, who is looking for Reed to be the top target in their passing game.
Jordan Reed has caught 73.8 percent of his targets throughout his career.
