Looking to trade edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney, the Houston Texans have reached out to several teams, including the Washington Redskins, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Miami, Seattle, the New York Jets, and Philadelphia are the other teams the Texans have contacted in attempt to trade the unsigned franchise player.

Wilson notes that nothing has advanced with any of those teams. Although, the Redskins are regarded as “a no-go” at this time due to them being unwilling to trade cornerstone left tackle Trent Williams, who is in the midst of a holdout.

Houston placed a franchise tender worth $15.967 million, however, both sides were unable to reach an agreement on a long-term deal ahead of the Jul. 15 deadline. Clowney in response has refused to sign the tender, and fired his long-time agent.

Clowney was granted permission from the Texans to meet with the Dolphins, but the former South Carolina stud preferred destinations are Seattle and Philadelphia.

To fans and some pundits, trading Williams to the Texans for Clowney makes sense. However, the Redskins used the second of two first-round picks this year on edge rusher Montez Sweat, who is expected to play a prominent role in the Redskins defense this year, and hopefully for years to come.

In addition, the Redskins have Ryan Kerrigan whose 46.5 sacks since 2015 dwarfs Clowney’s 29 in the same span. Kerrigan also in the fourth year of a five-year, $57.5 million deal. With no signs of wearing down, probably will command a hefty chunk of money in a potential extension.

If the Redskins are willing to move on from the disgruntled Williams, they could presumably could get a better haul back than a player-for-player swap. Things do change, but for now don’t count on Clowney to the Redskins.
