Washington Wizards first-round pick Rui Hachimura and his native Team Japan did not get off to a great start at the World Cup in China. Hachimura was feeling under the weather and struggled, as Japan fell to Turkey 86-67 early Sunday morning.
Hachimura finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in the tournament-opening loss. He shot just 3-of-10 from the field, however, one of his buckets was highlight-worthy, as he dunked over Milwaukee Bucks’ Ersan Ilyasova on a fastbreak.
Hachimura and Japan will have to rest up over the next day as they’ll be back in action Tuesday against the Czech Republic.
