The Washington Nationals had a rare clunker of a game Monday against the New York Mets. Washington spotted the Mets seven runs through eight innings before, an Asdrubal Cabrera three-run home run got them on the board in the ninth ultimately losing 7-3.

Washington may have lost more than just the game, as right fielder Adam Eaton exited the game after two innings as he experience pain in the back of his knee. Manager Davey Martinez said Eaton will undergo an MRI Tuesday.

Eaton was making his first start since he exited a Aug. 28 game against the Baltimore Orioles after being hit by a pitch in his right knee. While Martinez acknowledged the issue was in the back of his knee, it’s still concerning that the stellar outfielder has had to exit two games within seven days due to pain in the knee.

Eaton has struggled through injuries in each of his previous two seasons in Washington, including a torn ACL in his left knee that cut his 2017 season short. Certainly, the Nationals are keeping their fingers crossed that the matter is not serious and Eaton can continue to be a key contributor down the stretch.

Washington (77-58) has a six-game lead in the NL wild card and are up 3.5 games for home-field advantage in the wild card game.

Adam Eaton is hitting .288/.377/.436 with 12 home runs, 42 RBIs, and 90 runs scored this season.
