The Washington Redskins organization and its fans may have a bone to pick with FOX Sports. The network is marketing a graphic to promote the start of their coverage for the NFL, supposedly featuring each of the league’s 32 teams. Unfortunately, one of those teams were left off.
You can guess it, the Washington Redskins. Surely, it was a gaffe and oversight by the graphic designer to leave off the Skins, however, it’s surely not an acceptable excuse. Not for the team’s fans or the organization.
The Redskins’ expectations are low this season, but no lower than the Miami Dolphins, who are in a much smaller market. Neither are the Cincinnati Bengals. Maybe, the original graphic featured Trent Williams for the Redskins. Maybe, with his holdout, there was a quick erase and someone forget to add an replacement?
No Landon Collins, Josh Norman, Ryan Kerrigan?
How about the first-round pick quarterback Dwayne Haskins, the future of the franchise?
It’s all hypothetical. It’s hard to believe there was a choice to leave off the Redskins, one of the more marketable teams in the NFL.
What makes it even worse is the fact the graphic features two Atlanta Falcons players — Julio Jones and Matt Ryan — yet zero Redskins players. It’s 32 players on the graphic, just not all 32 teams.
Yet, it adds to the regression the franchise has had since owner Dan Snyder bought the team in 1999. At the time of his purchase, the franchise was the most marketable and wealthiest team in the league. In the 20 years with Snyder the team has regressed in marketability in comparison of other teams such as the New England Patriots and rivals the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants.
The headlines about the team has been drama-filled in recent years. They have been met with losing on the field, seven coaching changes, and just one playoff win in the 20 years Snyder has been owner.
Still its understandable for Redskins fans to not be happy with the FOX omission.
