Derrius Guice made his NFL debut Sunday after missing all of his rookie season with a torn ACL. The debut did not go as planned, as he rushed for 18 yards on 10 carries. And now he may be dealing with something worse.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Washington Redskins running back is likely to miss time with a knee injury.

Guice was taken to the medical tent and evaluated in the first half before returning to the playing field.

According Rapoport, the injury was to his non-injured knee that he tore his ACL in 2018 and required three additional surgeries due to an infection.

Guice’s injury also adds to the latest situation involving veteran running back Adrian Peterson. The Redskins opted to make Peterson inactive for Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The decision did not sit well with his teammates. Right tackle Morgan Moses went as far as calling head coach Jay Gruden’s decision to bench Peterson a “slap in the face.”

With Guice out, it’s anyone’s guess as to how the Redskins will sort out their running back situation, and how it will involve Peterson, who rushed for 1,042 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018 with Guice out then.

The Redskins also have Chris Thompson and Wendell Smallwood on the 53-man roster at running back.

As for Derrius Guice, this is another hurdle in his short NFL career. No matter how significant this latest injury is, he will have to both physically and mentally overcome another setback to put his career on the path many expected when the Redskins took him in the second-round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
