Adrian Peterson Will Start Week 2, if Derrius Guice Is Unable to Play

A week after being a healthy scratch against the Philadelphia Eagles, running back Adrian Peterson could be starting for the Washington Redskins Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. That is if Derrius Guice is unable to play.

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said there was no update on Guice’s injured knee, but that “he’s getting checked out,” according to NBC Sports’ JP Finlay.

He added that Peterson will start at running back, if Guice is unable to play against the Cowboys.

There appears to be hope that Guice could play, however, Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post suggests a sprain to the running back’s meniscus could keep him out at least a week if not longer.

Guice did not practice Wednesday.

Gruden said that Peterson doesn’t need a special talking after being benched in Week 1, adding “He is in a good place,” per 106.7 the Fan’s Craig Hoffman.

Gruden has been under a lot of criticism after his decision to make Peterson inactive against the Eagles. That criticism wasn’t exclusive from fans and media, as current players didn’t like the move.

The head coach said “for sure” he has to communicate to the locker room about Peterson’s benching.

Adrian Peterson rushed for 1,042 yards and seven touchdowns last season as the Redskins starting running back.

In Sunday’s 32-27 loss to the Eagles, Guice was held to 18 yards on 10 carries.
