Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice is meeting with Dr. James Andrews to get a second opinion on his torn meniscus, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said on Wednesday there was no update but that Guice was getting checked out.
Initial belief was Guice suffered a sprain to his meniscus, but Schefter’s report revealed a tear in his meniscus. If surgery is needed, Guice is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks.
This would be yet another hurdle in the young running back’s NFL career after he suffered a torn ACL last year as a rookie in preseason that caused him to miss the season.
Guice made his NFL regular season debut Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, but was limited to 18 yards on 10 carries.
Adrian Peterson, who was inactive in Week 1, is set to be the Redskins’ starting running back while Derrius Guice is out.
