The run of Robert Davis being the No. 1 practice squad player in the NFL lasted just one week. That is because the Washington Redskins have signed the young wide receiver to their 53-man active roster, according to the Athletic’s Ben Standig.

Davis was waived last Saturday from the team just a day before the season opener against Philadelphia. Washington needed a roster space for a third tight end and promoted JP Holtz. Davis went unclaimed the Redskins signed him to their practice squad on Tuesday.

Now, back with the organization who drafted him in the sixth round in 2017, Davis will once again be a part of the active roster. He will subsequently fill one of the two open spots on the roster made with running back Derrius Guice and defensive lineman Caleb Brantley each going on the the injured reserve.

Davis has the size and speed that makes him a promising receiver at 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds with 4.44 speed. He had two touchdowns during this year’s preseason, and seemingly shook off any concerns after a serious knee injury in the 2018 training camp.

He joins Paul Richardson, Trey Quinn, and rookies, Terry McLaurin, Kelvin Harmon, and Steven Sims Jr. on the Redskins 53-man roster.

Washington also added cornerback Deion Harris to the practice squad to fill the spot opened by Davis being promoted.

Harris, an undrafted rookie out of North Dakota, spent training camp and preseason with the Redskins. He was waived during final cuts at the end of preseason.
