REPORT: Redskins Not Interested in Jalen Ramsey

After missing out on the trade sweepstakes for defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick, the Washington Redskins have no intentions of getting in trade talks for disgruntled Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey, according to NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay.

It’s understandable why the interest isn’t there for Ramsey as it was reportedly for Fitzpatrick. While both would cost a first-round pick, Fitzpatrick fits the Redskins better schematically, and he was another Alabama product. He also has more years of team control left on his rookie-scale contract.

Ramsey has just a fifth-year option for 2020 at a whopping $13.7 million cap hit. He also wants a new contract, that is sure to make him one of the more higher paid defensive backs in the NFL.

Plus Ramsey is more outspoken. He has clashed publicly with his coach and team in recent years. That may be too much for the Redskins to tolerate for a player that would come at such a mortgage.

The Redskins have issues of their own in their secondary with an oft-injured Quinton Dunbar; Fabian Moreau nursing an ankle injury since August; and Josh Norman seemingly losing a step. However, Ramsey won’t be a solution for their troubles.
