The Washington Redskins have placed defensive back Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie on injured reserve. As a corresponding move, the team has officially signed pass rusher Noah Spence, the team announced Wednesday.

Rodgers-Cromartie was injured early in the first quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He sat out one play as he limped off the field but returned to the field on the play in which safety Montae Nicholson intercepted Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

According to the Athletic’s Ben Standig, Rodgers-Cromartie suffered a torn ligament in his ankle.

Rodgers-Cromartie came out of retirement to sign with the Redskins in March. He was expected to boost the Redskins secondary, however, with the emergence of Nicholson at free safety and rookie Jimmy Moreland at slot corner, Rodgers-Cromartie found himself fifth on the depth chart at cornerback.

He got the start Sunday against the Cowboys as both Quinton Dunbar (knee) and Fabian Moreau (ankle) were out with injuries.

Washington added depth at cornerback last week with Moreau and Dunbar’s injuries, signing Simeon Thomas and Aaron Colvin. That gives the Redskins four healthy cornerbacks to go along with Josh Norman and Moreland and six on the active 53-man roster.
