When the Washington Redskins take the field against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football, defensive lineman and captain Jonathan Allen plans on being on the field suited up.
“I am 100% playing this week. Thatās not even a question,ā Allen told reporters, per Craig Hoffman of 106.7 the Fan.
Allen has been hampered with a sprained MCL since he injured the knee in the first half of Week 1’s loss to Philadelphia. He wanted to return but was held out the remainder of the game. He then missed Week 2’s loss to Dallas. Now, he is determined to be ready for this week.
Allen returned to practice Wednesday for individual drills. He then was held out of Thursday’s practice for “rest” according to his head coach Jay Gruden. Friday he returned to individual drills.
It won’t be entirely Allen’s decision, as the team’s medical and coaching staff will ultimately have the final say.
If, he can return it will be a huge boost for the Redskins’ defensive front. Since Allen exited the game against the Eagles, Washington has been gouged on the ground in the first two weeks of the season.
The Redskins enter Week 3 allowing 168 yards per game on the ground. That’s only second to Miami for most rushing yards allowed.
The Redskins hope to fix those issues with a potential return of Allen to go alongside Daron Payne, Matt Ioannidis and Tim Settle. His status depends how his condition approves or not over the weekend.
