Washington Wizards forward Troy Brown Jr. is expected to miss four weeks after sustaining a train in his left calf. The injury occurred during routine workouts Monday, the team announced.
Brown is the latest injury to the Wizards before training camp starts. Guard Isaiah Thomas is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks following surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb. CJ Miles had foot surgery in July and there is no timeline set for his return after having a walking boot removed.
This is in addition to the team being without star point guard John Wall, who is sidelined with a ruptured Achilles.
Brown played in 52 games as a rookie last season, starting 10 games. He averaged 4.8 points along with 2.8 rebounds and shot 41.5 percent from the field in 14 minutes per game. Brown is expected to have an increased role for the rebuilding Wizards.
The timetable placed on Brown would mean he will miss training camp and preseason and pushing his availability when the Wizards open the regular season at the Dallas Mavericks on Oct. 23.
With Miles’ status uncertain, the Wizards will be shorthanded at forward/wing position. Head coach Scott Brooks may be forced to tinker with the rotation. If both Miles and Brown are unavailable, Brooks may have to turn to rookies Rui Hachimura and Admiral Schofield at the small forward position.
