Just as Redskins head coach Jay Gruden’s back is against the wall after a 0-3 start, his perceived favorite player, Ryan Grant, is now a free agent and available for any team to sign.

Grant was released by the Oakland Raiders Wednesday. The same team who is coached by Jay’s brother Jon.

Grant played four seasons under Jay Gruden while with the Redskins. He wowed the coaching staff with his work ethic and practice habits. Thus, he got ample opportunity to thrive in Washington. His best year was in 2017 in which he had 45 catches for 573 yards and four touchdowns.

Grant was favored so much by Gruden, that former Redskins GM Scot McCloughan referenced him as Ryan Gruden

Following the 2017 season, Grant agreed to a four-year deal worth $29 million with $14.5 million guaranteed with the Baltimore Ravens. However, a failed physical due to an ankle injury voided the deal. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts on a one-year deal a week later.

This off-season he signed a one-year deal with the Raiders. However, despite the need at wide receiver, the Raiders parted ways with Grant. He had four catches for 14 yards in two games. He was left inactive for Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Redskins seemingly don’t have a need at wide receiver. Rookie Terry McLaurin is thriving, leading the team with 16 catches, 24 targets, 257 yards and three touchdowns. They also have Paul Richardson, Trey Quinn in the slot, the dynamic Steven Sims Jr., and rookie Kelvin Harmon.

Yet, with the Redskins struggling to win games and Jay Gruden fighting for his job, it’s worth keeping an eye on the situation. And the Redskins do have a roster spot opened after the release of defensive lineman TY McGill.
