Case Keenum returned to practice Thursday and is expected to start at quarterback for the Washington Redskins against the New York Giants Sunday. Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said Keenum looked fine with his ailing foot and the plan is for him to start Sunday.
Keenum missed practice Wednesday with a foot injury he suffered on a sack against the Chicago Bears during Monday Night Football. He was in a walking boot Wednesday.
Dwayne Haskins will be the backup quarterback while Colt McCoy is slated to be inactive for a fourth straight game.
McCoy returned to practice on Wednesday after not practicing the first three weeks. He is still getting comfortable following his recovery from a broken leg he suffered last December.
Keenum’s return changes the narrative around the Redskins 24 hours after it was much speculation as to who would start in his place.
There was a lot of fuss if McCoy could bump Haskins. But, Gruden’s words suggest otherwise. For now, the crisis is averted and Keenum will be behind center looking to redeem a five-turnover game against the Bears Monday.
