Joel Klatt of Fox Sports told “The Rich Eisen Show” Friday the Washington Redskins coaching staff was never on board with drafting Dwayne Haskins in the first round. Thus tension between the coaching staff and the team’s front office has brewed over whether Haskins should be starting.

The rookie quarterback responded via Twitter, calling the report “Fake news” in a since deleted Tweet.

The biggest debate in Washington right now is about Haskins whether he should be playing now or not. Despite the Redskins being off to a 0-3 start, Haskins remains the backup quarterback behind Case Keenum.

Head coach Jay Gruden has been hesitant on playing this year’s 15th overall pick, making some speculate the reasons to Gruden’s thinking since the other first-round picks of this year’s draft — Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones — have already taken over reins for their teams.

Colt McCoy returned to practice this week after missing all of preseason while recovery from a broken fibula he suffered last season. McCoy’s return and comments by Gruden hinted Haskins could be bumped down in the near future to third on the depth chart.

Haskins has taken his path during his rookie season in strides. But that has not stopped many fans and media from wanting him to get in for a team that could be in for a lost season. As Gruden appears at the end of his rope with his time in Washington, the more we may be enlightened to whether Klatt’s report is true or fake news.
