Maryland senior wide receiver DJ Turner did not play Friday against Penn State due to a DUI arrest.

According to the Emily Giambalvo of the Washington Post, Turner was arrested in the early morning hours by the University of Maryland police on Sept. 20. He was charged with disobeying lawful order or direction of a police officer, reckless driving and other traffic violations.

With Turner not playing, Sean Savoy started in his place at wide receiver. Savoy finished with one catch for 15 yards. Maryland was blown out 59-0 by No. 12 Penn State.

“It was my decision to not play DJ,” Maryland head coach Michael Locksley said following the game, per Giambalvo. “DJ has to focus on the non-football things right now. I won’t get into or comment on anything further on that until I have more information.”

Turner has four catches for 84 yards on the season. He also is averaging 35.7 yards per punt return and has one punt return touchdown on the year.
