The start of the NL Wild Card game has been a nightmare for the Washington Nationals, as the postseason demons of their past continues to haunt them early. After surrendering a two-run home run in the first, Max Scherzer served up a second home run to start the second inning.
An aggressive Eric Thames skyrocketed a 1-0 curveball 411 feet over the center-field wall to extend the Brewers’ lead to 3-0.
Scherzer has now yielded 10 home runs since returning off the injured list on Aug. 22, including six in his last three starts counting tonight.
Scherzer’s early struggles with an aggressive Brewers lineup brings up questions towards Nationals manager Davey Martinez, who opted for Scherzer over the NL leader in wins Stephen Strasburg.
The Nationals have lost all three of their previous elimination games at home and are in great danger of adding another lost.
