Vernon Davis is uncertain to play in Week 5 as the Washington Redskins tight end has been placed in the concussion protocol, according to Ben Standig of The Athletic.

It’s unclear when Davis was injured, but he was involved on the Redskins’ final offensive play in last Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants. A pass from rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins bounced off of Davis as he was breaking his route. The ball popped up into the hands of Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins for Haskins third interception.

The Redskins are already down one tight end as Jordan Reed has been in the concussion protocol since Aug. 22 after he was on the receiving end of a helmet-to-helmet hit in the preseason.

The Redskins waived wide receiver Robert Davis Tuesday without announcing a corresponding move. Davis’ uncertainty may force the Redskins to add a tight end to the active roster.

On the season, Vernon Davis has 10 receptions for 123 yards and one touchdown.
