An MRI Wednesday revealed Washington Mystics Elena Delle Donne has a small disk herniation in her back. She will continue to go treatment and be re-evaluated Saturday. Her status for Game 3 of the WNBA Finals against the Connecticut Sun Sunday is unclear.
The WNBA MVP exited Tuesday’s Game 2 in the first quarter after attempting a layup. She immediately asked to be subbed out as her back got tight. The Mystics went on to lose the game 99-87, evening their series against the Sun at 1-1.
Any absence of Delle Donne would be looming for the Mystics. Washington was 0-3 in games in games without Delle Donne this season and 0-2 in the games she exited due to injury. They were 29-5 with her playing a full game this season, including the postseason.
