When the Washington Redskins waived wide receiver Robert Davis, many assumed he would be signed to the team’s 10-man practice squad. However, Wednesday, the team announced they had signed Darvin Kidsy instead.

What that means for Davis’ future in Washington remains to be seen. The team waived him from the 53-man roster Tuesday, and there was no immediate corresponding move in sight. That is because the team filled his spot in-house adding wide receiver Cam Sims to the 53-man roster.

The team had released cornerback Adonis Alexander from the practice squad, leading many to assume the space was reserved for Davis. That was not the case.

Davis was active in Week 4 against the New York Giants, catching one pass for 11 yards, in large due to starter Terry McLaurin being unable to play.

Cutting him after the game made sense for McLaurin’s return and potentially looking at other positions of need for the active roster. Yet, the team signed another young wide receiver with potential in Sims. What makes the move more perplexing is the fact the Redskins filled the practice squad spot with another wide receiver over Davis.

No word of any issues, but it appears the Redskins are going in another direction with its wide receiver depth for whatever reasons. Keep in mind, the team still has a practice squad roster spot open.

Sims is a big physical player much like Davis. Sims made the 53-man roster in 2018 as an undrafted rookie, but suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 1. He was part of the final cuts before the regular season, but was brought back on the practice squad.

Kidsy was part of the team’s final cuts ahead of the regular season but was passed over for the initial practice squad.

The Redskins wide receivers have struggled outside of McLaurin, who has blossomed as a steal. Despite missing Week 4, McLaurin still leads the team receiving yards and touchdowns.

Davis was not the answer, apparently, and now the team will turn to Sims for a spark while adding another young receiver with potential to the practice squad.
