Washington Wizards center Ian Mahinmi will be out at least six weeks with a strained right Achilles tendon before he will be re-evaluated, the team announced Thursday.
Mahinmi is in the last year of a four year, $64 million deal with the Wizards.
His time in Washington has been marred by injuries and marginal play on the court. Last season he played in 34 games and lost playing time to the young Thomas Bryant.
Washington enters the 2019-20 season with low expectation in large due to John Wall being expected to miss the season in entirety as he recovers from a ruptured Achilles tendon. However, the injury bug has spread throughout the remainder of the contract. Mahinmi becomes the fifth player expected to miss significant time entering the season.
