Shortly after Jay Gruden named Colt McCoy the Redskins starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots, a pair of videos surfaced Friday evening of the head coach interacting in questionable behavior.

JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reached out to the Redskins for comments, but the team declined to comment on the matter.

Maybe that’s because according to Pro Football Talk, league officials believe the Redskins may have been behind the leak of the videos.

“Some in league circles wonder whether the team hopes to fire Gruden with cause, cutting off his right to ongoing pay. Thatā€™s precisely what the team did more than two years ago, when firing G.M. Scot McCloughan.”

Additionally, the videos of Gruden are not new. In fact, the videos may be older than a year maybe longer, according to PFT.

The first of two videos shows a man that appears to be Gruden allegedly smoking what some to be marijuana as bystanders chant his name “Jay, Jay” before he appears to be taken by the videotaping.

The other is him sitting on the ground talking with an unidentified woman.

It is very odd if the videos are at least one year older if not longer, they never surfaced beforehand. That is not until Gruden named McCoy the starting QB possibly against the wishes of the team’s brass, owner Daniel Snyder and president Bruce Allen.

Jay Gruden is on a short leash with the team starting the season with a 0-4 record in his sixth year. This is another distraction and underlining story line that has come with the franchise over recent years under Allen.
