By all accounts, there was a different tone in Redskins practice Wednesday. There was music, the tempo higher, referees and an emphasis on fundamental football techniques. There was a sense of urgency. And players ended their first practice with Bill Callahan as Redskins interim head coach by running sprints.
Following practice, Callahan explained “conditioning” and “stamina” were the root of why he had players running sprints to close practice. He also pointed to struggles in the second half of games.
Callahan pointed out the team’s struggles in the second half of games.
Callahan took over as interim head coach following the firing of Jay Gruden on Monday. He has set out to change the attitude of the team in hopes of turning around their season.
Under Gruden practices were perceived as too relaxed and the team did not have accountability. Two of the many things that team president Bruce Allen stated Callahan will alter while in change.
Running sprints at the end of practice, certainly is a changeup from what was the norm under Gruden.
