Mystics forward Emma Meesseman was named the WNBA Finals MVP, as she helped lead the team to their first-ever league championship.

Last season the Mystics made it to the WNBA Finals without Meesseman. She was filling her obligation to the Belgium National Team in the 2018 FIBA Women’s World Cup. This season she returned, as the Mystics dubbed her as their missing piece. And they very much needed her on their run.

Meesseman stepped up whenever the Mystics needed her. When the Las Vegas Aces keyed on WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne in the WNBA semifinals, she picked up the scoring. When Delle Donne injured her back and needed another hand, once again Meesseman was there, dropping 21 points in a Game 3 win.

Then Thursday night in Game 5, she played lead in the Mystics’ quest, scoring a team-high 22 points including 15 in the second half. The Mystics played through her.

Meesseman averaged 19.3 points and 5.6 rebounds while shooting 58.2% from the field, including 58.1% from three throughout the playoffs.

After her hiatus from the WNBA, Meesseman returned with a bang. She was the difference maker, the missing piece throughout the playoffs for Washington. And now she can bass in the glory and step out of the shadow, as the 2019 WNBA Finals MVP.
