Redskins interim head coach Bill Callahan made it official, naming Case Keenum as the starting quarterback for Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins. He then named rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins backup, meaning Colt McCoy, last week’s starter, will most likely be inactive and the odd man out.
Callahan says Keenum earned that and is the captain of the team. Haskins being the backup comes down to him being one snap away and preparing as such. Want him to be ready and that role keeps him sharper throughout the week.

Callahan says the best situation for Haskins’ development is having him prepare to be one snap away from being in the game.
Haskins is the future of the Redskins, and his development is the team’s top priority. That is exemplified by the Callahan not committing to Keenum beyond Sunday.
Keenum assumes his starting spot after exiting Week 4’s loss to the New York Giants in the second quarter and sitting out Week 5’s loss to the New England Patriots. How long he remains the starter will all depend on his performance on the field and how ready Haskins is to be the starter.
Unlike the previous coach, Jay Gruden, Callahan and his staff are intent to ultimately get Haskins ready.
