The Redskins officially placed tight end Jordan Reed on injured reserve Saturday with a concussion. In a corresponding move, the team signed safety Jeremy Reaves from their practice squad.
Reaves’ promotion is in large due to safety Deshazor Everett suffering an ankle injury in Thursday’s practice that will force him to miss Sunday’s game at the Miami Dolphins.
Reaves went undrafted in 2018 after starring at South Alabama. He was a two-time first-time All-Sun Belt and was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year in 2017. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles but was released before the 2018 season. He signed to the Redskins practice squad last season.
Reaves shined in this year’s training camp and preseason. However, he was part of the team’s final cuts before the start of the season. The Redskins were settled on their four safeties, Landon Collins, Montae Nicholson, Troy Apke, and Everett.
Now with Everett out, Reaves is the next man up. He is expected to get snaps on special teams, and could have the chance to play on defense, where he showcased his abilities most during training camp and preseason.
