Jay Gruden said he has “been bored out of my mind” since being fired by the Washington Redskins after a Week 5 loss to the New England Patriots.
The former Redskins head coach told Dianna Russini on ESPN’s “Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz” that he is taking it all in right now, trying to figure out his next move.
One of those moves was not watching his former team collect their first win of the season over the Miami Dolphins. Instead, Gruden opted to play golf.
“I didn’t watch it, actually. I was playing golf,” Gruden said.
“Yeah, I think that first Sunday is gonna be hard and I decided to go out to the golf course and played at Robert Trent Jones golf course, a couple of buddies of mine and had a good day,” he added. “I was happy for some of the players and a few of the coaches that got the first win.”
Wondering if one of those players he was happy for was Adrian Peterson?
In the meantime, Gruden did partake in a poker tournament of a friend’s. He pointed out that contrary to popular belief, it was just one tournament.
âWe had one poker tournament at our neighborâs house,” Gruden pointed out. “There was one poker tournament at our neighborâs house and one of the guys from The Junkies, a local radio show, was there, of all people and he reported on it. There was one little friendly poker tournament at a neighborâs house, so itâs not all the time.â
âIt was fun, we had a good time, it was harmless, my kids played in it, and had fun,â he added.
Jay Gruden spent nearly six seasons with the Redskins, compiling a record of 35-49-1 with one NFC East division title and one playoff game as head coach. Rumors have suggested he could partner with his older brother Jon, who is the head coach of the Raiders, next season when the team moves from Oakland to Las Vegas.
