We’ve been told Dwayne Haskins is not ready to be the Redskins starting quarterback. His former head coach Jay Gruden repeatedly let us know. Additionally, NFL pundits, including scouts have seemingly thought Haskins isn’t ready at this stage in his career to be a starter.
Don’t tell that to Haskins. When asked about reports suggesting he isn’t ready, the Washington Redskins quarterback fired back at any detractors.
“That’s really a joke, I pride myself on reading defenses,” Haskins responded.
Through the first six weeks of his NFL career, Haskins has been relegated to being the backup quarterback for Washington. His only action occurred in Week 4 after starter Case Keenum aggravated a foot injury against the New York Giants.
Haskins’ first NFL outing didn’t go as planned. He threw three interceptions, including a pick-six. Redskins interim head coach Bill Callahan says Haskins development is a top priority.
Wednesday, the rookie took all the first-team reps in practice. Keenum was given a veteran’s day off.
Best way to learn is to get an opportunity to show what he’s learned. Callahan appears to focused on that as well as getting the team ready.
