John Carlson is off to a historic start this season. The star defenseman registered three assists in the Washington Capitals 5-2 win over the New York Rangers, Friday. It was his third consecutive game with three points.
Carlson now has two career three-point games. No other Capitals defenseman has done so once.
Carlson has 17 points on the season, including 14 assists. That’s the most points by a defenseman in the month of October in Capitals’ history. It’s also the second-most points in one month by a Capitals defenseman since Mike Green notched 20 in February 2009.
Carlson is tied with Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid for most points in the NHL. Carlson leads the league in assists.
