With running back Chris Thompson ruled out for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, the Washington Redskins have promoted undrafted rookie running back Craig Reynolds to their 53-man roster.

Thompson did not practice this week with a toe turf injury he suffered last week against the Dolphins. Reynolds, 23, signed with the Redskins shortly after going undrafted in this year’s draft out of Kutztown — a Division II program.

Reynolds has been on the Redskins practice squad all season after being released during final cuts before the start of the regular season.

Interim head coach Bill Callahan raved about Reynolds this week, hinting he could be promoted in the wake of Thompson’s injury.

Sims appeared in one game this season — a Week 5 loss to the New England Patriots. He started the season on the practice squad before being promoted ahead of the 33-7 loss to the Patriots. He played two offensive snaps.

It’s unclear if the Redskins intend on signing Sims to the practice squad after he presumably clears waivers.
