Bill Callahan Sticking with Case Keenum, as Dwayne Haskins ‘Still Learning’

Despite another subpar performance by Case Keenum, Redskins interim head coach Bill Callahan is sticking with him as his starting quarterback.

Keenum completed 9-of-12 passes for 77 yards in a rain soaked 9-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Yet, Callahan is staying committed to Keenum, saying “We still have a lot of faith in Case and his ability.”

Meanwhile, Callahan says rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins is “still learning” in a quest to eventually become the Redskins starting quarterback.

Many may say Haskins cannot do worse, but Keenum has been mistake-free in terms of turnovers. He was sacked three times against the 49ers and has a mere 22 completions in the last two starts.

Keenum has been turned into a game-manager under Callahan. The Redskins attempted 26 run plays against 15 passing plays. While “conditions” may have been a factor, it’s clear the Redskins are not asking Keenum to throw the ball 25 times.

If not, then why can’t the first-round pick and future of the franchise not play with the same game plan is beyond thinkable.

Case Keenum won’t wait long to atone his previous three outings, as he faces his former team, the Minnesota Vikings, on Thursday Night Football.
