WATCH: Redskins’ Troy Apke Picks off Jimmy Garoppolo for First NFL Interception

Redskins safety Troy Apke hasn’t stood out in his first two seasons in the NFL. However, with Deshazor Everett out with an ankle injury and Montae Nicholson injured in the game, Apke has had an increase of playing time. Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers it paid off as the former Penn State standout caught his first career interception.

The 49ers were facing a 4th and 5 in Redskins territory on their opening drive in the second half. 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo sailed a pass to Dante Pettis, as Apke got over the top of him to jump the pass for the interception. He then displayed his 4.35 speed, returning the pick 33 yards to midfield.

Unfortunately, the Redskins offense failed to capitalize, but it was an overdue glimpse of why Washington drafted him in the fourth round in 2018.
