Adrian Peterson Expected to Play Thursday Night Despite Ankle Injury: ‘I’m Good’

An MRI on Adrian Peterson revealed he has a grade 1 high ankle sprain as well as a grade 2 low ankle sprain. Despite not practice Tuesday, the Washington Redskins running back is expected to play Thursday against the Minnesota Vikings.

Peterson told ESPN’s Josina Anderson “I’m good.”

Peterson was injured last week in the third quarter, as he was tackled around his ankle. He fumbled the football as the Redskins were looking to score trailing 3-0 against the San Francisco 49ers. The fumble proved costly, as the Redskins lost 9-0, dropping to 1-6 on the season.

Peterson blamed himself for the loss, but acknowledged he dropped the football because of the pain around his ankle.

With Chris Thompson still nursing a turf toe injury that kept him out of Sunday’s loss, the Redskins were relegated to Wendell Smallwood, recently promoted Craig Reynolds, fullback Joe Burton, and practice squad member Josh Ferguson.

Since the firing of Jay Gruden, Adrian Peterson has been the featured player in the Redskins offense. In the two games under interim head coach Bill Callahan, Peterson has 199 rushing yards on 43 carries. He had 108 yards on 40 carries in his previous four games under Gruden.
