John Carlson continued his incredible start to the NHL season with two goals in the Washington Capitals’ 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames Tuesday. He became the fourth different defenseman to collect 20 points in the month of October. The first since 1990.
Al MacInnis, Brian Leetch, and Paul Coffey are all members of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Carlson leads the NHL with 15 assists and his 20 points. He is second in the league with 1.82 points per game.
Another amazing feat is 14 of his points have come at even strength. Carlson led all NHL defensemen with 68 points in 2017-18, the Capitals’ Stanley Cup run. He topped that mark with 70 points last season. He is well on pace to surpass that this season.
It’s been an incredible start, historic in its own right. John Carlson has been viewed as one of the more underrated defensemen in the league. After this, he won’t be under the radar much longer.
