John Wall and Adidas are engaged in talks to negotiate a buyout to his sneaker endorsement deal, according to Nick DePaula of ESPN.

Wall signed a five-year deal expected to pay him $25 million in January 2018 after he spent a two-year window as a sneaker free agent. However, the pact appears to be coming to an end less than two years into the deal.

Wall had a signature shoe deal that dawned “JWall” series with Adidas that lasted from 2013-15 after his deal with Reebok was transferred to the German sneaker brand. However, when the two sides could not agree to a deal in 2015, Wall became a sneaker free agent which he remained for two seasons.

In January 2018 he inked the five-year deal, but two injury-plagued seasons followed. A knee injury sidelined him for much of the second half of the 2017-18 season that forced him to miss his fifth All-Star appearance.

In 2018-19 season, he missed 50 games in large due to an Achilles injury that required surgery. Already slated for an extended absence, Wall ruptured the Achilles in a fall during his recovery.

John Wall is expected to miss the 2019-20 season entirely as he rehabs.

He now will have to find a new sneaker home for his return which is expected for the 2020-21 season.
